Serum Amyloid P is a 25 kDa pentameric protein which is found in human serum, where it modulates immunological responses and inhibits elastase. It is an important contributor to amyloidosis, where amyloid proteins are deposited in a range of organs, which causes them to function incorrectly. This can lead to a range of different symptoms, depending if the amyloidosis is localized or systematic. Amyloid P usually makes up approximately 14% of the dry mass of amyloid deposits in human organs. The amyloid P component is utilized in clinical diagnostics to locate areas of amyloid build up in a technique called serum amyloid P scintigraphy. Amyloid P has also been suggested as an indicator of liver disease.
Scipac offer highly purified amyloid P protein as well as amyloid A and amyloid elevated plasma samples.
